Personal Statement
I am passionate about learning and the natural world. I see the opportunity for wonder and curiosity all around us. By tapping into this natural inquisitiveness I believe every learner can be engaged at their level of understanding and background. It is my goal to help students find relevance in science that is applicable to their lives. I guide students to cultivate learning tools for scientific inquiry and analytical and critical thinking, which can be utilized in a variety of applications wherever students take their academic careers. I'm excited to be part of the North Seattle College learning community!
Curriculum Vitae
Caroline has nearly 20 years of experience in various forms of education. She is currently a STEM Education Technologist at Cascadia College, a tenured faculty member & Department Co-Coordinator in the Chemistry Department at North Seattle College where she also serves as the campus Faculty Development Coordinator. Additionally, she teaches part time for the University Beyond Bars program which provides access to higher education for incarcerated individuals at the Monroe Correctional Complex. Prior to teaching at North Seattle College, she most recently taught as an Adjunct Faculty member for Edmonds Community College in the subjects of Chemistry and Environmental Science. Prior to Edmonds CC, she was an Adjunct Faculty member at Highline College teaching Chemistry and Geology. Caroline also has prior experience as a High School Chemistry teacher through the National Science Foundation GK-12 Fellowship program. Prior to that she was an informal Environmental Educator for more than a decade working at a variety of institutions including the Woodland Park Zoo and University of Washington's Summer Youth Programs. Her research interests focus on stable isotope geochemistry, paleoclimatology and effects of climate on plant communities. Caroline holds a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science in Earth and Space Sciences from the University of Washington.
