Personal Statement

Students in my classes will be taken through time to discover the history of the world through art objects. In my classes, students will explore the earliest human imprints at the cave at Lascaux, the architecture and engineering of the Romans, the remarkable woodblock prints from Japan, the life-like sculptures made by Michelangelo, the translucent colors of Impressionist paintings, and the broad spectrum that is 20th and 21st century art. Through lectures, discussions, and innovative online content, together we will discover the broader context that surrounds these works of art, and seek to understand and articulate why these objects were made, what they represent, and how they can tell us a story of humanity. Students are given the skills and tools necessary to succeed in my classes, and I work hard to create a safe space where differing opinions can be expressed and discussed.
