Personal Statement

I create a learning environment where students feel safe to experiment and try new things, become confident problem solvers, and make lots of good art on their way to making great art. While hands-on experience is at the core of my curriculum, critiques and group discussions also play an important role for students, accelerating learning through shared experience. To facilitate productive and positive conversations, I foster a level of trust and mutual respect with my students individually and collectively.

I believe that a positive experience with visual arts curriculum builds a level of confidence that radiates out to all other aspects of a student’s life, no matter their chosen path. Each student that walks into my classroom is an opportunity for me to generate another champion for the arts and the essential role that it plays in a healthy and vibrant society.
