Personal Statement

I am deeply honored to serve as the President of North Seattle College. North Seattle is a world class college where you'll find that "excellence in teaching and learning" is embedded in our culture and mission. We provide relevant academic offerings and pride ourselves on our strong student engagement and retention efforts. At our world-class college, you will find great diversity in our academic offerings (from GED, 2-year transfer programs, workforce certificates to four-year degrees). Curriculum Vitae

Previously, Dr. Brown served as Seattle Central College’s Executive Vice-President for Instruction and Student Services. In this role, he was senior administrator for all instructional and student services deans. Prior to arriving at Seattle Central, Dr. Brown was the Dean for Student Learning at Cascadia Community College, where he oversaw all Humanities, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and World Languages programs. He also supervised staff in eLearning, Laboratory Instructional Support, and Faculty Support. Dr. Brown has previous experience as a combined instructional and student services administrator at Whatcom Community College. Before Whatcom Community College, Dr. Brown was a tenured faculty member and department chair at Pierce College. Dr. Brown has worked at the University of Washington's Office of Educational Assessment and has been a part-time faculty member at the University of Washington, Whatcom Community College, and Portland State University, and he currently teaches part-time at Seattle University. His research interests are in higher education, curriculum and instruction, and multicultural education. He has published in such academic journals as the Community College Journal of Research and Practice and the Multicultural Education and Technology Journal. Dr. Brown holds bachelor and doctorate degrees from the University of Washington and a master’s degree from Portland State University.
