Personal Statement

The mission of the NSC Library is to support the college's educational and service goals by ensuring that all students, faculty, and staff will receive the best possible service, information, resources, and equipment in an environment conducive to learning.

We combine traditional academic resources such as face-to-face classroom teaching traditional library reference and circulation services with an acclaimed online learning program, academic databases accessible through the library website, multimedia tools available for checkout at the Library reference desk, and the Student Media Center, or SMC, which is housed inside the NSC Library.

Zola Mumford is a Reference and Instruction Librarian on the faculty of North Seattle College, researcher, and  writer. She is co-leader (with Jill Irene Friedberg) of the Seattle Black Spatial Histories Institute, a community story training program of Wa Na Wari, an immersive community art project. From 2003 to 2022 she was Curator of the Seattle Black Film Festival, a program of LANGSTON, a nonprofit arts organization. Mumford has served as a Washington State Book Awards judge, a Clarion West board member, and continues to be a speaker, panelist, and writer on subjects ranging from archival research to film history to science fiction/speculative fiction. Her professional background also includes media and arts production; historical research; the Seattle cast of Ping Chong's Undesirable Elements; and preservation work with film and print materials in university and private film and art archives.  https://linktr.ee/zolamumford
